Beats, Beets, Beatz?

It’s been said, as a general rule of thumb, that most creatures who have hearts get about the same amount of beats out of them before they give out. Tiny creatures have very fast hearts, larger creatures have slow ones. Turtles, one of the few animals known to live over 200 years have hearts that beat only 20 times a minute on average.
Today I was wondering if the same held true for songs. Are slower songs longer on average? Are punk songs shorter on average (yes). Do people like to hear approximately the same number of beats before they are done listening to a song? Would it be fair to include Dream Theatre in our analysis? Classical music? Trance?
